The base of my thumbs hurt so much that I had to quit playing golf. In fact, it got so bad that I couldn’t hold up a book, I needed help opening a bottle of milk, and my normally bad penmanship took a turn for the worse.
One day I was with my customer for a home inspection, and the seller was present. In real estate, sellers are not supposed to be present. In this case, it was a blessing because this one told me about an acupuncturist in Jacksonville, Dr. Michael Kowalski, who had helped her numerous times with back problems and carpal tunnel syndrome. As skeptical as I was, I was willing to try anything. I had already seen a hand specialist, tried cortisone shots which only lasted a month, and refused the other options which were surgery and anti-inflammatories. Read: Stomach ulcers.
My first visit lasted over 2 hours. Dr. Kowalski reviewed my medical history but also went through every food, vitamin, liquid I consumed in a normal day. I didn’t realize how much certain foods contributed to arthritis and others helped relieve it. My diet has changed considerably. Good news, I lost 10 pounds. Bad news, I had to give up coffee, but I’ll survive. If you’re wondering about the needles, it’s no big deal.
After 6 weeks, I am at a pain level of 2, compared to a level of 8 when I first started, and I am going to venture out to play golf again this week. As a side note, Dr. Kowalski has treated golfers during the annual Tournament Players Championship at Sawgrass. One golfer almost quit after 9 holes because of pain in this 3rd finger. After getting treatment from Dr. Kowalski, he not only returned to the tournament, but came in 2nd!
I couldn’t be more pleased with my progress. If you’re interested in learning more, Dr. Kowalski’s office is located on the southside: 4237 Salisbury Rd, Suite 107, Jacksonville, FL 32216. Phone: 904-296-9545.
